If you’re between 10 and 13 years old at school you may be able to find a Junior VPC Unit or even an Emergency Services Cadet Unit. However being a new strand to our programme these opportunities are not available in all areas yet.
The Junior VPC similar to the Volunteer Police Cadets senior programme, but adapted for a younger age group. Cadets will be issued with a uniform and will take part in activities such as drill, sports as well as the more formal classroom lessons.
Lessons will focus on age appropriate topics such as safety, both on the street and online, topics of law such as theft and antisocial behaviour, basic first aid and team building activities. Cadets may also work towards their Young Star Navigator award in preparation for starting the Duke of Edinburgh Award at 14.

Emergency Service Cadets is a joint programme run by Police, Fire Service and St John Ambulance. As you can imagine the curriculum covers area of learning from all three of these services with topics such as fire safety in the home, first aid and personal safety.
Both of these programmes feed into the senior sections of the Volunteer Police Cadets, as well as the ESC feeding young people into the Fire Cadets and St John Ambulance. For more information about which schemes operate in your area, contact the local Volunteer Police Cadet Coordinator on our “Find your Nearest Unit” page.
